Meet the team

Chicago Inter Handball welcomes players of all ages and experience levels. Meet some of the people who contribute to growing handball in the Chicagoland area.

Jolanta Kunickaite

Women's team captain, Jolanta Kunickaite discovered handball at the age of 8. Naturally athletic and with a gift for handball, she was soon invited to join the Lithuanian Handball Youth National Team. By the age of 20 she was playing with the Lithuanian Senior National Team.

Since emigrating to the United States and joining Chicago Inter, Jolanta has been dominant: winning numerous MVP and "Top Scorer" awards, and leading her team to multiple titles. Since 2007, she has lead her group to 5 National Championships and 3 silver medals and looks forward to more.

    Malgorzata Gunka

Malgorzata (Gosia) Gunka got her handball start in Poland at age 11. She played for many clubs in Poland and handball quickly became a huge part of her life. Gosia loved the excitement of the game and the lifelong friendships she made through the sport. This inspired her to complete her degree at the University of Physical Education in Krakow and to become a physical education teacher and handball coach.
She didn’t get an opportunity to coach in Poland because she moved to Chicago to start a new life and family shortly after finishing her studies. She found Chicago Inter and more success as a player, including 4 National Championships and an opportunity to play with the USA Women’s National Team.
Gosia recently hung up her handball shoes and finished her career as a player, but handball will always be a part of her life. She is now focusing on coaching USA youth and kids ages 7 to 11 in her hometown of Hickory Hills, IL.
